why in news?

Ayurveda Day is celebrated annually in India on Dhanwantari Jayanti, also known as Dhanteras.

This year, the 9th Ayurveda Day on October 29, 2024 with Theme "Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health".

• on the occasion Prime Minister will inaugurate projects related to the health sector worth around 12,850 crore rupees.

Prime Minister will inaugurate various health projects across the country:


• Phase II of India's First All India Institute of Ayurveda

• Ayushman Bharat scheme expansion to all senior citizens o 70 years and above.

• Three medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh.

• service extensions facilities at various AIIMS institutions in Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh.

• Inaugurate Jan Aushadhi Kendras in various states.

• 21 Critical Care Blocks in various states under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).

• ESIC Hospitals in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh.

• U-WIN portal digitalizing the vaccination process for benefitting pregnant women and infants.

• Central Drugs Testing Laboratory in Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

About Ayurveda Day:

• Ayurveda Day also known as Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras) is celebrated as the day Lord Dhanvantari, the divine physician and propagator of Ayurveda, is believed to have emerged from the ocean during the churning of the sea.

Since 2016, Ayurveda Day has been celebrated to promote Ayurveda for holistic healthcare system development.

Origins:

Ayurveda finds its origins in the Vedic texts, particularly the Atharvaveda, which dates back to around 1500 BCE.
